Proof-reading & editing services
I offer a professional personal proof-reading and editing service, covering masters and doctoral dissertations and theses of postgraduate students.
My recent students have been doctoral or masters students at the University of Birmingham. These services might be especially, although not exclusively, suitable for overseas students, for whom English is an additional language, and who wish to express their own ideas, arguments and meanings in English with fluency and clarity. I have the education, experience and training to provide help with expressing ideas in English, within the appropriate set academic context.
I know from my own struggles with thesis-writing - now, thankfully, nearly twenty years ago - how this can be an isolated and difficult time. I can offer well-informed support to motivated students who are registered at ‘writing up’, ‘continuation awaited’ or ‘thesis awaited’ status at a nationally-recognised Institution of Higher Education in Britain.
The proof-reading service is typically undertaken face-to-face, and in the presence of the student. (For more information, please refer to the 'FAQ', or ‘Frequently asked questions’ page of this website.)
The proof-reading and editing services can be booked in two ways.
The first way is as a regular, weekly commitment for up to two hours per day in mornings, Monday to Friday, with limits in the school holiday period. (In this case, a guaranteed weekly service-level is agreed in a written contract for tuition on one or more particular day).
Alternatively, services may be booked 'as and when required' on an ad. hoc., occasional basis, with the minimum time commitment of one and a half hours.
I will give priority to students who wish to make an agreement with me for regular meetings.
Commitments are reviewed each term, or more frequently, depending upon the progress of learning or of writing up of the thesis or dissertation.

Individual tuition in academic writing skills
For students approaching the ‘writing up’ or ‘thesis awaited’ status, I offer tuition in academic writing skills. These include tuition on spoken or written presentations, seminars, conference papers, term papers, planning and writing theses, writing analyses of theory and discourse, methodology and empirical research.
In addition, I have specific experience of training and teaching descriptive and narrative writing; discursive and argumentative writing; definitions, exemplifications and classification; cause and effect; and experience of compiling and analysing the results of surveys and other research methods.
